Most Romantic Spots to Visit in Switzerland

We honeymooned here in 2012 and have spent multiple anniversaries here as well, so we can confirm that Switzerland is an amazing destination for love birds! 🥰

Reader, if we were planning a Valentine's Day trip / honeymoon / anniversary to Switzerland, here are the places we'd 🖇️ bookmark:

  • Interlaken | Sunset dinner at Luegibrüggli Restaurant, or fancy afternoon tea at Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel
  • Lake Brienz | Splurge on a vintage room at Grand Hotel Giessbach overlooking Giessbach Falls
  • Grindelwald | Breakfast, coffee, and cake at Cafe 3692, or dinner with a view from Hotel Belvedere
  • Mürren | A charming B&B in Mürren plus dinner at Stägerstübli (Hint: order the lamb!)
  • Zermatt | Enjoy the Spa at Hotel Mont Cervin or Riffelalp Resort (which has the highest spa in Europe!)
  • Lucerne | Visit Gütsch for sunset drinks, and maybe an evening walk through the forest
  • Montreux | Wind through the nearby terraced vineyards (by Lutry and Vevey), or dine up the mountain at Le CouCou.
  • Zurich | Splurge on a stay at Hotel Uto Kulm in Uetliberg )this is where we spent the first night on our honeymoon) or the luxurious Dolder Grand Hotel.
  • Neuchâtel | Relax in a luxury overwater villa at Hotel Palafitte. This is where we spent our 12th wedding anniversary and only wish it was warmer so we could have gone swimming from our balcony!
  • Swiss Lakes | Walk along the waterside paths of a Swiss Lake (Lungern and Oeschinensee are some of our favorites, but you can choose any lake — Lucerne, Geneva, Brienz, Thun, etc.!)

How we met...

We love celebrating milestones, but we're a bit rebellious when it comes to Hallmark Holidays. (We're looking at you, Valentine's Day!)

So every February we celebrate the anniversary of when we first met instead!

In 2011, Jana's job description was college student and "best babysitter ever." Brett had already graduated from university and was working full-time as "the best gymnastics coach ever."

The kids who Jana babysat for also went to gymnastics. (Can you tell where this story is going?!?)

Brett, as a handsome young redhead, was used to people trying to set him up on dates. Naturally, he was not interested to meet Jana...until he had a dream about her.

And in the dream, her name was Giovanni. Which, strangely enough, is Jana's mom's maiden name.

That was just too odd for coincidence, so he immediately found Jana on Facebook (because that's what you did back then) and asked her on a date. That was on February 21, 2011.

Brett swooped me off my feet on our first date by taking me to a local restaurant with live country music.

By May, we were talking to our parents about getting married.

Brett proposed in August.

And we sealed the deal in May 2012.

Now, we celebrate the anniversary of our first date instead of Valentines Day.

The Swiss eat more chocolate in the world than any other nationality, at 25 lbs (11.3kg) per person per year.

So act like a Swiss this week and eat some extra chocolate for Valentine's Day 🍫
