Reader, have you ever visited a place and thought, "Wait… why haven't we spent more time here before?!"

That was us, relaxing in Bern, just 2 weeks ago.

But wait…before we tell you about our trip to Bern, let’s talk about another Swiss destination that's even more relaxing — Montreux.

Montreux

Like Bern, Montreux seems to be one of those places people almost add to their itinerary…and then skip because they’re not quite sure how to fit it in.

Too many options.
Not enough time.
And that little voice saying, “What if we pick the wrong place?”

But we recommend that most first-time visitors to Switzerland include 2–4 days in Montreux in their itinerary.

Our Suggested 2-Week (or 3-week) Switzerland Itinerary

1–3 days = in and around Zürich (especially if you're flying in or out of here)

3–5 days = Lucerne and Central Switzerland

5–7 days = Jungfrau Region

2–4 days = Montreux and the Swiss Riviera

2–3 days = Zermatt

Now…back to Bern.

The capital city of Switzerland is less than an hour from our house, and we'd been here before (at least 2 overnight trips and a handful of day trips).

But we recently had a very early morning appointment in Bern, so we decided to stay overnight and turn it into a 3-day trip.

(Side note: We love that our job description is basically to travel and then teach others — like you, Reader — how to travel too!)

As usual, we leaned into our favorite travel rhythm:

👟 Walk and explore

📸 Fill up our camera roll

🍽️ Eat local dishes

☕ Try out cafes and bakeries

➡️ Repeat

Cafes

Whenever we travel, Brett's on a mission to find the best coffee in town.

Which means we visited a different cafe every morning and every afternoon.

Some spots were new spots, some were worth re-visiting.

📍Bruin Café & Co

📍Coffee Coaching Club

And did we mention his sweet tooth?!

📍Berner Mandelbärli

Gelato

I (Jana) don't drink coffee.

(😲 Gasp — how has our marriage survived?! 😉)

But I could eat gelato every day for the rest of my life.

And I think I found the best gelateria in Bern!

Old Town Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And most of it hasn't changed since the 12th century.

Which means you're literally walking through hundreds of years of history as you cross the cobblestone streets!
