Every morning of my childhood was familiar and comfortable.

β˜• It smelled like coffee.

πŸ“Ί I heard my parents talking to each other with the morning news in the background.

πŸ“° And there were always the familiar extra large pages of the newspaper spread on their laps.

No matter how you read your news Reader, here are a few interesting highlights from recent Swiss news:

Where we've been recently

A perk of being one of our 20k weekly readers is that you get to see behind the scenes!

Here's a little roundup of a few places we've been recently:

Niesen

This is the famous pyramid-shaped mountain towering over Lake Thun. We enjoyed the funicular ride, brunch, playground, terraces, and a hike.

And boy oh boy, the views from the top are even better than we remember from our last visit!

Northface Trail

If you want to know which trail we take most of our friends/guests on, it's this one. From Allmendhubel to MΓΌrren or Gimmelwald (often via the Sprutz Waterfall). And a few times a year we go on this hike ourselves just because it's so enjoyable.

By the way, this hike is included in day 5 of our 1-Week Guide to the Jungfrau Region!

Spiez

Picture a quaint town (with awesome cafes and bakeries) dotted with a castle, marina, and giant park, set to the backdrop of vineyards and mountains.

That's Spiez, situated along the train line between Interlaken and Thun, nestled between the mountains and Lake Thun.

Grindelwald Freibad Hellbach

Every week, Jana and Little Aplin go on a Friday Field Trip to somewhere extra fun. And one week we spent the morning at this pool. I loved the big toddler pool (complete with a mini slide), nice green lawn, and homemade cake from the restaurant.

And while Little Aplin splashed, I was definitely gazing up at the peaks!

The Niesen has the world's longest staircase (which runs along the funicular) with 11,674 steps.

And every year there's a race where you can run (drag yourself) up to the top!

We took a quick work trip to Lucerne.

Behind the Scenes

A brief look at our lives behind the camera and computer.

READING: We're both into classics this summer! Jana's re-reading her favorite book from high school, and Brett is reading this novel as he works through the series.

BUYING: new water bottles for Little Aplin. We were disappointed with the Contigo ones (they leak non-stop), so we're testing out Klean Kanteen and Camelbak. (But we actually love these silicone cups for when we're at home!)

WATCHING: Jet Lag The Game, of course!
